About us

Why TOP.AMSTERDAM
TOP3.AMSTERDAM was started, because most websites about Amsterdam, have photo's and text, but hardly any video about Amsterdam.
While video gives a much more accurate impression of attractions then photo's do. With a photo, it is easier to make something looks better, while with video, manupilation is much harder. What you see is what you get.

An other reason to start TOP.AMSTERDAM is that other websites about amsterdam, rank attractions solely based on tourists reviews.
We think, after living many years in Amsterdam, and after seeing allmost every attraction in Amsterdam, we have a more complete picture of the city.
We rank attractions both on our own knowledge of Amsterdam, and on reviews of vistors of Amsterdam.
So you can get the best out of Amsterdam in your limited time here.

I have been living in the center of Amsterdam for the past 26 years.
In my spare time, I like to go to bars and cinema. My favorite area in Amsterdam four going out, is the Red Light District. Not because of the prostitutes, but because I like the bars in that area's, and the lively atmosphere, especially on the Nieuwmarkt square.
The Nieuwmarkt is ideal for sitting on a terrace, and see people passing by. This square, and the surrounding houses date from the seventeenth century, are beautiful to see, especially with a beer.
From Nieuwmarkt it is just a few streets to the heart of the Red Light District. It is safe to visit. But like everywhere in big cities, watch for pickpockets, and don't photograph prostitutes, because they don't like that.
On Leidseplein many bars are for tourists only. Nice if you want to meet other tourists, but not for meeting locals You can't really experience Amsterdam there.

If you want to dance, go to the Nieuwe Anita or the West Pacific.

If you have kids, or like science or technique, visit the Nemo museum.
If you are interested in the history or want to see famous artists like Rembrandt, visit the Rijksmuseum.

If you want to buy cheese to take home as a souvenir, buy it at the supermarket. In souvenir shops, it will be much more expensive.

Try local food like patat (fries), pannenkoek (pancake), broodje haring (herring sandwich) of drop (licorice).

Best way to explore Amsterdam is by bicycle.
Watch out for other bicycles if you cross the street.

I have been living in the centre of Amsterdam for the past 26 years.
In spare time, i like to go to bars and cinema. Mij favorite area in amsterdam four going out, is the Red Light District. Not because of the hookers, but because i like the bars in that are's, and the lively atmosphere, espacialy on the Nieuwmarkt square. The Nieuwmarkt is ideal for sitting on a terrace, and see people passing by. This square, and the houses around it, date from the seventeenth century, are beautifull to see, especcially with a beer.
I advice you, not to go to the Leidseplein or Rembrandtplein for going out. On Leidseplein, apart form The Melkweg and The Paradiso (both great for live music), most bars are only for tourists. You can't really experience Amsterdam there.
The atmosphere on Rembrandtplein is less relaxed then the Nieuwmarkt.

If you want to dance, go to the Nieuwe Anita or the West Pacific.

If you have kids, or like science or thechnique, visist the Nemo museum.
If you are interested in the history or want to see famous artists like Rembrandt, visit the Rijksmuseum.
